Gauge-dependent cosmological 'constant'
When the cosmological constant of spacetime is derived from the 5D inducedmatter theory of gravity, we show that a simple gauge transformation changes it to a variable measure of the vacuum which is infinite at the big bang and decays to an astrophysically acceptable value at late epochs. We outline implications of this for cosmology and galaxy formation. PACS numbers: 04.20.Cv, 04.50.+h, 98.62...
متن کاملCosmological Constant, Gauge Hierarchy And Warped Geometry
It is suggested that the mechanism responsible for the resolution of the gauge hierarchy problem within the warped geometry framework can be generalized to provide a new explanation of the extremely tiny vacuum energy density ρV suggested by recent observations. We illustrate the mechanism with some 5D examples in which the true vacuum energy is assumed to vanish, and ρV is associated with a fa...
متن کاملGravitational Gauge Fields and the Cosmological Constant
ADSTRACT We describe field theories for which the action is completely independent of the metric and connection of the space-time manifold. The metric in our approach is no more a fundamental field than a hadron field is a fundamental field in &CD. The fundamental fields in the action are O(5) gauge fields and combinations of these fields are interpreted as the metric and connection so that con...
متن کاملCoasting Cosmologies with Time Dependent Cosmological Constant
The effect of a time dependent cosmological constant is considered in a family of scalartensor theories. FriedmannRobertsonWalker cosmological models for vacuum and perfect fluid matter are found. They have a linear expansion factor, the so called coasting cosmology, the gravitational ”constant” decreases inversely with time; that is these models satisfy the Dirac Hypotheses. The cosmological ”...
متن کاملNon–Commutative Gauge Theories and the Cosmological Constant
Explaining the small observed value of the cosmological constant is one of the crucial problems in contemporary theoretical physics (see [1–3] for reviews). Although classically the value of the cosmological constant can be tuned to an arbitrarily small value, one cannot do so in a quantum theory. In general quantum fluctuations force one to relate the vacuum energy density to the UV cut-off sc...
